The big project
I'm working on an app that can extract small pieces of data from print documents.
This is a problem that I've been interested in for about five years, although five years ago I knew about 1% of what I know now, so I don't regret waiting. The itch I would like to scratch is the automation of my personal finance.
But we have personal finance software now, right? Of course, and I'm a devoted GnuCash user. But as consumers, I don't think we have enough power over our affairs.
Consider the case of your monthly credit card statements. What was your APR last month? Are you sure? If you're like most consumers, the issuing bank could have raised your rate months ago and you wouldn't have noticed. But could a tool look at your statement and let you know about any surprises? I think so.
So far the technologies used are standard C with the Apache Portable Runtime.
